The proceedings of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) are being completed in Brussels today, Tuesday, 15 May, with the participation of Foreign Minister Ms. D. Bakoyannis and Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Y. Valinakis. The issues addressed by the GAERC included the broader policy of the EU on the Black Sea region, preparations for the EU-Russia Summit Meeting (18 May 2007), the situation in Somalia and Sudan, the Middle East peace process, the results of the recent international meetings on Iraq, recent developments in Serbia and Kosovo, and Iran’s nuclear programme. A joint meeting of Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers discussed security sector reform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and issues concerning the EU missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo. Also held was a meeting of Ministers responsible for Development Cooperation, which was participated in by the Foreign Ministry's Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Mr. T. Skylakakis.
