National defense minister on 1967 coup's anniversary
21 April, 2007

National Defense Minister Evangelos Meimarakis on Friday issued a message on the occasion of the 1967 coup's anniversary saying the "consequences from the abolition of democratic institutions during the seven-year dictatorship indicate in a catecorigal manner that the struggle for defending the ideals of democracy, social justice, human dignity but of national independence as well, must be continuous."

"The strong democracy which we enjoy today, without discriminatory lines and prejudices, is being reinforced and deepened even more through a new poiltical culture for which we are all labouring and which propotes confidence and respect to defferent opinions and rids us from fanaticism and passions," Meimarakis notes.

"Present time demands faith in the values of Hellenism and a disposition to offer not only to our country but to the international community as well," the minister added, underlining that "our country's Armed Forces together with our people express this faith and disposition."
