At his regular briefing today, the Government Spokesman, Mr. Dimitris Reppas, was asked to comment on the insulting behavior of some hooligans during the minute of silence for the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States, at the recent soccer match in Athens between AEK of Athens and Hibernian of Scotland.
"We have indeed taken note of these deplorable incidents. We flatly condemn this behavior. It is sad to see the slinging of arrows so unjustly against a people, especially at a time of their suffering. Our fight against terrorism is relentless and we will do everything, in cooperation with other countries, to reach the desired result."
Replying to another question, Mr. Reppas dismissed some reports about "anti-americanism" in Greece and said: "We reemphasize the need for all of us, political parties, organizations and citizens generally to exercise a sense of responsibility, especially at this critical time. We well know that the Greek people, the political parties, the political and institutional leaders of the country, stand at the frontline of the fight against terrorism and the terrorists. There should be no doubt whatsoever about this commitment."
