Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos on Sunday expressed hope that the new Turkish Cypriot leadership that will emerge from Sunday's voting in Cyprus Turkish occupied areas will show an honest will for the resumption of talks for the reunification of Cyprus.
Replying to questions at Larnaca airport, before his departure for Prague, Czech Republic, where he will pay an official visit, Papadopoulos described the fact that outgoing Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash is not among the candidates on Sunday as ''a positive step.'' ''We hope that a leadership will emerge out of today's voting that will show honest desire for the recommencement of talks, for the reunification of our country, the reunification of the community, the territory, the economy and the institutions,'' Papadoulos noted.
He said he has no indication as to what will happen as regards the Cyprus question, after Sunday's voting in the occupied areas. Turkish Cypriot politicial Mehmet Ali Talat is expected to be the winner of Sunday's voting. He is one of the nine candidates standing for Turkish Cypriot "president" on Sunday.
