Expressing condemnation and horror at the multiple terrorist strikes that strewed death and mayhem in London the previous day, as well as their condolences toward the British people and government, the foreign ministers of Greece and Russia called for concerted global action and a tough stance against terrorism after they met in Moscow on Friday morning.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in particular, stressed that there was no room for compromise when dealing with terror and expressed opposition to "those policies that consider that there can be an understanding with terrorists".
Greek Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis, who met Lavrov on the second day of his trip to Russia, said that terrorism was "an international phenomenon affecting the entire world", while noting that close cooperation was vital in order to combat it.
He also referred to Greece's initiative to call an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Thursday that passed a resolution condemning the terrorist attacks on London. Greece holds the presidency of the Security Council for this month.

On his part, Lavrov stressed that the world must display zero tolerance when dealing with terrorists and those that assisted them.
"There must be a joint approach. It is particularly dangerous for someone to claim that they can exercise policy around terrorism. Terrorists cannot be given refuge. Political games around terrorism have no place. They are catastrophic and none of the terrorists or those who harbor them should be given refuge in any civilized country," he said.

He also noted that the "means to combat the phenomenon exist," and referred to the UN's Counter Terrorism Committee, which he said should undertake to coordinate counter-terrorist action by countries. Lavrov also stressed that the members of the UN Security Council must take the lead in the fight against terrorism and emphasized the importance of good cooperation between the special services of various countries.
