In a ceremony held at the Panathenian Stadium in central Athens on Saturday, 21:00 p.m. and in the presence of the Greek President of the Republic Kostis Stephanopoulos, the Olympic flame will be handed over to the Organizing Committee of the Sydney Olympic Games.
The Olympic flame will be transported to Australia on a special flight on Sunday.
According to the Greek Olympic Committee, the general public will be barred from entering the stadium to view the ceremony because of structural damage caused by last September's earthquake.
