U.S. Assistant Secretary of State on FYROM name issue
20 October, 2007

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Daniel Freed noted that it is in the interests of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to seek a solution to the pending issue of its name, with Greece, before the NATO summit that will be held in Bucharest, Romania, in April 2008.

Speaking to a local private television station, he said that "in order for the country to receive an invitation for accession to NATO, it must convince us that reforms in the country are moving swiftly and without backtracking and that it is prepared to work intensively in the direction of finding a solution for the pending issue (of the name), because it is in its interests."
