Deputy National Defense Minister Dimitris Apostolakis stressed during a banquet organized for him by members of the Cretan society "Minos" in Astoria, New York, that the US recognizes that Greece constitutes a "regional power".
Speaking about contacts he had in Washington on Friday with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Franklin Kramer, Apostolakis said talks with his counterpart on issues of mutual concern regarding Greece and the US were a double success.
"On the one hand, a coincidence of views was achieved on many issues in line with the interests of both countries. On the other, it is now a fact that Greece's role is recognized all the more by the US, which currently has special interests and concerns in southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean. It was affirmed by Mr. Kramer himself, who said that Greece is now a regional power which is something we have never heard before about our country," Apostolakis said.
